Factory device settings

BALTECH readers are shipped with factory device settings defining default protocols and feedback depending on the card type. If these factory device settings fully meet your requirements, you don't need to create your own device settings.

Factory device settings do not replace project settings

Readers with factory device settings read any card's serial number (UID). However, even if that's enough for you, we highly recommend you create project settings as productive readers without project settings are a security risk. In this case, your configuration contains project settings only.

ACCESS2xx

Host protocol

Wiegand

  • The default protocol is Wiegand (34 bit)
  • Keypad readers transmit button presses as 4-bit messages.

OSDP

  • You can switch to OSDP by setting a bus address on each reader using BALTECH AdrCard. This will enable OSDP with the following default parameters:

    • Baud rate of 9600
    • OSDP v1, i.e. unencrypted communication

These default parameters apply as of firmware version 1.21.00.

  • To change these parameters, e.g. to enable encrypted communication, or to set a fixed bus address on all readers, add device settings to your configuration.

  • When deleting the bus address, Wiegand is automatically reactivated.

Feedback to card holder

Wiegand

  • Idle mode: Red LED is on.
  • Valid card detected: When the host switches to low, the reader beeps for 300 ms. In addition, the LED switches from red to green until the host switches back to high.

OSDP

Feedback is fully controlled by the OSDP controller.

ID-engine

Host protocol

  • USB HID
The reader reads a card's serial number (UID) automatically. The UID can then be retrieved by a host application that uses BRP over HID.

Feedback to card holder

  • Idle mode: Red LED is on.
  • Valid card detected: LED switches from red to green for 1 second, then back to red.
  • Invalid card detected: LED switches off for 1 second, then back to red.

Restore factory device settings

If you have configured the reader with custom device and/or project settings, you can remove them and restore factory device settings by doing a factory reset.
