Update reader firmware
To use a new reader feature, set up a project, or fix a bug, you may need to update the reader firmware. Below, you'll learn when an update makes sense and how to install it.
If you have a project for which only a specific firmware version is approved, please check back with us before updating the readers.
Find out current version
First, please check your reader's current firmware version with BALTECH ID-engine Explorer:
- Connect the reader to your computer.

Open BALTECH ID-engine Explorer.
If you haven't installed it yet, you can download it herecall_made as part of BALTECH ToolSuite.

Click the reader, then click Select.
- If several interfaces are shown for the reader, please select HID.
- Connecting an Ethernet reader currently only works in maintenance mode or with PKI encryption (learn more).
At the bottom left of the screen, you can see the reader's firmware version.
Check for new versions
Once you know your current version, please check our firmware changelog for newer versions and see if they include the feature or bugfix you need:

Install a new version
You can install a new firmware version with BALTECH Uploader.
- Connect the reader to your computer.

Open BALTECH Uploader.
If you haven't installed it yet, you can download it herecall_made as part of BALTECH ToolSuite.

Click Browse... in the top right and select the firmware installer file.

Click Select Reader.

Click the reader, then click Select.
- If several interfaces are shown for the reader, please select HID.
- Connecting an Ethernet reader currently only works in maintenance mode or with PKI encryption (learn more).

Click Start Update.
The firmware update is now uploaded and installed on the reader. Once the process is completed, disconnect the reader and continue with the next if needed.
