Protocols / Papercut / TakeMfpAddress Value

Specifies whether IF Converter presents the IP address of the multifunction printer connected to it as the source address of the connection to the PaperCut server, instead of its own.

PaperCut identifies the device a card read belongs to by the address the connection originated from; it ignores any device identification in the message body. Enabling this value is therefore what makes PaperCut attribute a card read to the printer that IF Converter is attached to rather than to IF Converter itself.

The address in question is the one IF Converter has learned by listening to ARP traffic on its external switch chip. This value only has an effect on a device that has actually detected a printer behind it; on an IF Converter whose second socket is empty it makes no difference either way.

This behavior is disabled unless you explicitly enable it, and it should only be enabled deliberately: it puts another machine's address on the wire, and it requires a redirect rule in the customer's switch so that the server's replies find their way back to IF Converter.
