Configure a custom e-mail sender
In each Mobile ID project, various e-mails are sent out automatically, e.g. invitations to new users and admins or notifications when a user is deleted.
As an option, you can replace the default e-mail address from which these e-mails are sent with a custom e-mail sender.
What is the default e-mail sender?
Hosting | Default e-mail sender |
---|---|
Cloud | mobile-id@baltech.de |
On-premises | SMTP account defined during on-premises setup |
For which projects is a custom e-mail sender recommended?
- All cloud projects
- On-premises projects for which the default e-mail sender (see table above) is from a different domain than recipient e-mail addresses
Why is it recommended?
- E-mail delivery to the spam folder is less likely.
- Recipients are more likely to trust the e-mails, especially if they haven't been announced in advance.
- Transmission is more secure if e-mails don't have to be sent between different e-mail servers.
- You can see when e-mails bounce back.
What are best practices?
- Use an account from the domain to which recipient e-mail addresses typically belong.
- Don't use a personal account, but a separate account only used for sending Mobile ID e-mails, e.g. mobile-id@example-company.com.
- Add this e-mail account to your e-mail client (e.g. Outlook) to see when e-mails bounce back.
Configure e-mail sender
You can configure the e-mail sender right after creating a new project.
In existing projects, go to Settings > E-mail sender.
To configure the e-mail sender:
- Select the radio button Custom: recommended.
-
Enter the SMTP parameters of the e-mail account:
Parameter Description SMTP hostname Name of SMTP server, e.g. smtp.example-company.com SMTP username E-mail address, e.g. mobile-id@example-company.com SMTP password Password for the e-mail address
For cloud projects, it is stored encrypted on our server.Sender name and e-mail address Name and address as displayed to the recipient, e.g. Mobile ID <mobile-id@example-company.com> Security Defines whether the connection to SMTP server is encrypted (STARTTLS, TLS) or unencrypted (None). Port Typically 587, if encrypted connections are used. Valediction Sign-off message at the end of each e-mail body. Must be ASCII text. E-mail footer Company details displayed at the bottom of each e-mail. Must be ASCII text.
Test configuration
To test if all SMTP parameters are correct, you can send yourself a test e-mail at the bottom of the dialog.
