Factory settings

BALTECH readers are shipped with factory settings for the RFID interface, host interface, and feedback to card holder. Factory settings depend on the reader type.

ACCESS200

RFID interface

Autoread mode is active, i.e. the reader autonomously reads the UIDs of all supported card types.

Don't leave the RFID interface unconfigured when using Autoread

If you use Autoread, we highly recommend you configure the reader for Autoread even though it's already active:

  • Readers without an RFID interface configuration will be vulnerable to unauthorized reconfiguration (learn more about security).
  • If you configure the host interface only, Autoread will be disabled, and the reader won't detect any cards.
  • Without Autoread, contactless reconfiguration of already installed readers will no longer work, because both contactless reconfiguration options (ConfigCards and Wireless Upload) require Autoread.

Host interface

Wiegand

The default protocol is Wiegand with the following default settings:

  • 34 bit
  • Keypad readers transmit button presses as 4-bit messages.

OSDP

You can switch from Wiegand to OSDP as follows:

  • BALTECH AdrCard

    • Via BALTECH AdrCard you enable OSDP and set an individual bus address on each reader.
    • On readers with firmware 1100 v1.21.00 or above, the following default parameters apply:

      • Baud rate: 9600
      • OSDP v1, i.e. unencrypted communication
  • Reader configuration

    • Via the reader configuration, you enable OSDP with bus address 1 on all readers.
    • If needed, you can change the default parameters.
  • Combine AdrCard and configuration

You can also combine AdrCard and configuration: Then, the address set with AdrCard will be used, while the parameters from the configuration will apply.

Feedback to card holder

Wiegand

  • Basic state: INPUT_0 is held high, i.e. the red LED is on.
  • Valid card detected: When the host sets INPUT_0 to low, the reader beeps for 300 ms. In addition, the LED switches from red to green until the host switches INPUT_0 back to high (learn more).

OSDP

Feedback is fully controlled by the OSDP controller.

ID-engine Z

RFID interface

Purchased with firmware 1100 v2.00 or above (as of May 2022)

Purchased with firmware below 1100 v2.00

Autoread mode is by default disabled. To enable Autoread, i.e. to make the reader autonomously scan for cards, create a configuration.

Host interface

  • USB HID
The UID read from the card can be retrieved by a host application that uses BRP over HID.

Feedback to card holder

Purchased with firmware 1100 v2.00 or above (as of May 2022)

  • Idle mode: Red LED is on.
  • Valid card detected: LED switches from red to green for 2 seconds, then back to red.

Purchased with firmware below 1100 v2.00

  • Idle mode: Red LED is on.
  • Valid card detected: LED switches from red to green for 1 second, then back to red.

Restore factory settings

If you have deployed a custom configuration to a reader, you can remove it and restore factory settings by performing a factory reset.
