Check reader health

If a reader doesn't work as expected, we recommend you check the reader health, i.e. you check if a reader component is defective.

To check the reader health:

  1. Connect the reader to your computer.

    I have an Ethernet reader.

    To work with BALTECH tools, an Ethernet reader must be unconfigured, or required permissions must be granted in PKI Authentication and Encryption settings.

  2. Open BALTECH ID-engine Explorer.
    If you haven't installed it yet, you can download it here as part of BALTECH ToolSuite.

  3. At the bottom right, check the Health info box.

    The following health states exist:


    Icon Description
    2 checkmarks All good. The reader is fit for productive use.
    1 checkmark You can use the reader as a test reader. If you plan to use it productively, please get in touch with us.
    warning sign Functionality impaired. Check the boot status for more details.
    To do so, continue as described below.

  4. To check the boot status, click Show Full Reader Info at the bottom right. Screenshot: More Reader Information button in BALTECH ID-engine Explorer

  5. On the left of the Full Reader Info page, check the error message displayed in the BootStatus/Errors section:
