Connect to a reader via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
BALTECH USB readers can be used in Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) sessions. Depending on the protocol, a special setup may be required.

Access via USB-HID
To use a reader configured for PC/SC as a USB-HID device within the RDP session, follow the instructions for USB device redirection. Then, however, you can no longer access the reader via PC/SC.
Keyboard emulation
No special setup required.
Access via USB-HID
A reader configured for keyboard emulation cannot be used as a USB-HID device within an RDP session. To enable HID support, you must first change the host interface configuration.
General notes
-
Connect the reader to the RDP client before establishing the RDP connection.
Otherwise, the reader won't be detected. -
Network latencies will affect BRP command execution times.
While the impact on individual commands is minimal, you may notice longer execution times during command sequences or operations that involve multiple commands. -
Don't perform reader updates during an RDP session.
Deploying firmware and configuration updates will cause the reader to reboot, and depending on its configuration, the reader may no longer be recognized afterward.
Hyper-V
Microsoft Hyper-V supports the pass-through of USB devices including our readers using RemoteFX USB device redirection. Learn more
